For months now, we have been working day and night to advance health insurance reform. And today, I can report great news. Last Saturday, the House passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act, a historic bill that will offer all Americans choice and competition and will put patients first. Below is a video I would like you to see. It will brief you on this unprecedented achievement and what it means for you and your family.

The Congressman 'Face(s) the Nation' yesterday, July 19, in support of the health care reform bill passed in his Ways & Means Committee last Friday.

And filed away in our 'department of praise' files is this gem from the interview below:

"If Charlie [Rangel] and I could sit together, we'd get it done. I have a lot of confidence in his ability."
– Sen. Orrin Hatch (R – Utah)

Anatomy of a Vision, Part VI

In my concluding remarks, I broach the topic of Health IT and praise the health care professionals at New York City's Ryan Center for the hard work their doing on the front lines.

There are so many blocks for building a stable and permanent foundation for our economy. It can't just be fiscal policy. It must take into account affordable housing. It has to lay the groundwork for improvements in our educational system. It cannot neglect the rising costs of health care. I am grateful that President Obama's budget has the foresight and wherewithal to do so.

This Rangel TV series looks at the Congressman's recent remarks laying out a vision for this country and segments it to highlight how a wide range of issues are interrelated.

Concrete, practical, and hard-hitting remedies to the economic crisis are crucial. But so is leadership. Legislation aimed at shoring up education, health care, our financial system, and our energy production are all facets of one overarching goal, but it all comes together under a singular lofty, ambitious, and inspiring vision.

Today's segment talks Innovation and Imagination.

The tie between education and the health of the economy is a far from tenuous one.

As a nation, we drastically shrink our talent pool and our ability to compete on the global stage when we trade bodies in our college classrooms for bodies on the streets, in jails, or even underground. We give way to the rise in influence of China and India and saddle the next generation with a workforce unfit for competition, perennially unemployed and underemployed. The cost in human and economic capital is too much to bear. We should, instead, tap into the amazing reservoir of talent that is our youth, equipping them with the skills and experience that will strengthen our workforce and boost our competitiveness.

Today's segment tackled the issue of education, and how an investment in education and training will lay the foundation for an economic resurgence.

The economic downtown facing this great nation touches not just our wallets, but every facet of American life. It's about the volatile markets, and the credit freeze, and rising joblessness. But it's also about the lack of affordable health care; an education system in need; rampant foreclosures; and our reticence to invest in green and alternative energy.

We thankfully have a Congress and a President with the foresight to realize the American home is under siege at every corner − from the kitchen table, to the gas tank, to the classroom − and to remain silent on any one challenge is a disservice to the overarching goal of getting this country back on track.

The following video features me at a legislative breakfast, painting a comprehensive picture of the work ahead of us, and how every piece of the puzzle fits together for a stronger, healthier America. We've segmented my talk into six disparate clips, and we'll unveil and highlight each clip − dealing each with a different piece of the overall puzzle − each day.

Today's segment tackles our need to confront the economic crisis head-on. Catch the joke at the start of the video − it got a great laugh.

Here's video of me, posing that question to my colleagues, about (perhaps) the most important economic calamity to face this country in 80 years.
