Today, House Republicans have once again proven that they are more interested in scoring political points than in bipartisan governance. Instead of agreeing to a Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) that passed with considerable Republican support, my Colleagues have decided to deliberately make it harder for immigrant, Native American, and LGBT victims of domestic violence to get their due recourse against their aggressors. This is both an affront to the rights of the abused and a classic case of blaming the victim instead of giving them the opportunity to defend themselves.
I applaud the good work done by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, as well as that of our local organizations that work in tandem with the SNAP program to help feed New York families. The efforts of the Food Bank for New York City, the Yorkville Common Pantry, and the Bailey House have been particularly vital in providing food to the families who need it.

During National Women's Health Week we reaffirm our commitment to providing affordable healthcare for women and making sure insurance companies cannot consider being a woman a 'pre-existing condition.'
Congress needs to attract and keep good jobs in the United States by passing legislation that gives companies a new 20 percent tax credit for the cost of moving their operations back to the U.S. and pay for it by eliminating tax incentives that allow companies to deduct the costs of moving their business abroad.

President Obama's budget offers a vast reduction in the deficit while ensuring prosperity for all Americans. The Ryan Budget does neither. It is nothing more than Robin Hood in reverse: it would produce the largest redistribution of income from the bottom to the top in modern history.
It is unfair to ask taxpayers to pay taxes on their taxes. If others levels of government (i.e. states and municipalities) are already claiming that revenue, it is not part of any taxpayer's disposable income. By removing the deduction for state and local taxes, Gov. Romney's proposal would mean that the government taxes ordinary Americans twice, which seems a little hypocritical coming from such an ardent supporter of tax cuts for the wealthy.
Today's young minority men and women should expect nothing less from themselves than a college degree. Moreover, they should demand nothing less from their country than affordable options for a higher education. Congress must take action to make college accessible for everyone.
