Rangel Statement On The President’s Budget

March 4, 2014
Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Charles B. Rangel released the following statement on President Barack Obama’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2015:

"President Obama's budget for the fiscal year 2015 shows how we can grow our economy and expand opportunities for everyone in America. The budget provides a roadmap that ensures fiscal responsibility while investing in infrastructure, job training, preschool, and pro-work tax cuts, as it reduces deficits through healthcare, tax, and immigration reform.

I am pleased that the President’s budget calls for an extension of the Earned Income Tax Credit, which could cut taxes for 13.5 million workers. Last week, I introduced the EITC for Childless Workers Act, which would extend the nation's most effective anti-poverty program to low-income single workers without children. Expanding the EITC will not only reduce poverty, but also promote work and stimulate economic growth.

The President’s budget reflects the top priorities of the American people: creating jobs, closing the opportunity gap, and building an economy that works for everyone. In Congress, my Democratic Colleagues will continue to uphold the President's vision by fighting to raise the federal minimum wage, provide a pathway for citizenship to immigrants, extend unemployment insurance, and empower everyone with the opportunity to pursue the American Dream."
